This conversion of an old laundry room, garage, and storage closet is now a compact living unit (Additional Dwelling Unit or ADU as they call them in the Bay Area). The floor was excavated for additional height, foundations updated, and brought up to modern standards. Berkeley Building Department approvals were relatively swift considering the proposed ADU was within the existing footprint of the house.
